NEW YORK, NY, NOVEMBER 1, 2005 – WE: Women’s Entertainment will document the real life caring and generosity of the holiday season with the premiere of Katrina Weddings: A Second Chance on Friday, December 16 at 10:00pm ET. Wedding planner, bridal store owner and The Apprentice 2 finalist, Sandy Ferreira, will host this 1-hour special, using her experience to give two couples the wedding they deserve now more than ever.
When Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast many engaged couples watched their wedding dreams wash away along with their homes, jobs and possessions. Their fantasy Fall weddings were shattered by mother nature as the reality of her wrath destroyed wedding halls, separated their families and forced wedding dates into an uncertain future. Or so they thought….
This Holiday season, WE: Women’s Entertainment invites viewers to join master wedding planner Sandy Ferreira, as she surprises two Gulf Coast couples with the dream weddings they had envisioned. Sandy and her team of expert specialist and assistants will work tirelessly and passionately to turn each couple’s wedding dreams into reality. Families will be reunited, tears of joy will be shed and gifts will be bestowed. Complete with a full guest list and all the trimmings, the nuptials once washed away will be salvaged by the caring and generosity of strangers.
“Like the rest of the world, my heart stopped as I watched the unbelievable devastation from Katrina” said, Sandy Ferreira, wedding planning expert and host of Katrina Weddings: A Second Chance on WE. “I felt helpless. Sending money and clothes didn’t seem to be enough. I decided to put my wedding planning skills to good use by donating my services to engaged couples whose wedding plans were ravaged by Katrina.”
About the couples
Jonique & Michael’s November wedding, and Jena & Pete’s March 2006 nuptials, both in New Orleans, had to be postponed indefinitely due to the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina. This is especially difficult for Jonique who has only been in touch with her family by phone and e-mail. Both couples lost their homes, cars and jobs as a result of the storm. Jena & Pete’s house was flooded by the storm surge. They were lucky to escape, by boat, through a second story window. As both couples work to rebuild their lives, they look forward to the day they can begin re-planning their wedding.
